Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium is additional Government funding for schools to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers.

The school receives Pupil Premium based on the number of children in the following groups:

  • £1,345 for every pupil who claims free school meals or who has claimed free school meals in the last six years.

  • £2,345 for every pupil who has left local authority care through adoption, a special guardianship order or child arrangements order.
  • £310 for every pupil with a parent who is serving in HM Forces or has retired on a pension from the Ministry of Defence. This funding is to help with pastoral support.
Is your child eligible for the Pupil Premium?

Your child may be able to get free school meals if you get any of the following:

  • Income Support
  • income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • the guaranteed element of Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  • Universal Credit - if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)

If eligible, our school will receive the additional Pupil Premium funding and your child will continue to receive free meals in Key Stage 2.

Pupil Premium strategy

At Mount Street Academy we believe that every child, regardless of their background, should be given the very best education. We want to use our Pupil Premium funding in the most effective way possible. Our job is to ensure that all children, whatever their ability, background and family income status, are given opportunities to learn according to their need.

All schools are required to publish a strategy statement so that parents can understand how the Pupil Premium is being used. Please click on the link below to find out about the funding we receive at Mount Street, and how it supports our work with disadvantaged pupils.
